Why Am I Here?

Hi, I’m Hina and I'd like to welcome you to Mumnums.

I thought this blog would be useful for my children, so that I can give them and you some of the recipes we’ve enjoyed over the years, and some new ones that I might have picked up here or there.

My children are not “children” any more, they’re all grown up now and live their own lives in their own spaces. They ask me, from time to time, how to cook this or that and I’ll tell them, but it’s hard to explain what a pinch of this and a handful of that looks like. They’ll always say “so, how many grams, millilitres?” Because of this, I thought it might be easier if I just write it down and then I can share stuff with everyone in a way that’s easier to understand.

I’ve been cooking since I was about 12 years old, got married when I was 18 and had my first beautiful baby at 19. I was a stay at home mum when the girls were little, so was generally in the kitchen, cooking everyday. My mum and mother-in-law taught me authentic Indian cooking, mostly from the Gujarat region and I’ve carried that forward adding to my knowledge and finding recipes for dishes we all enjoyed from all over the world.

I’m not a stay at home mum anymore as the children no longer live with us, it’s just me, my husband and Noodle, our gorgeous dog (or furbaby). I still enjoy cooking for everyone when they are around. Our “little” family consists of me, my husband, (who is a real Indian cuisine foodie), 3 girls (the daughters), 2 partners, 2 dogs and a baby, our first grandchild.

Let me tell you, I’m not the greatest cook, but they seem to enjoy what I make, and I hope you do too. Homemade is so much better for you then shop bought ready meals, processed foods and takeaways and it’s really easy too. Don’t get me wrong, treat yourself every now and then, but try and do it yourself too. Guys, if I can do it, believe me, anyone can!! Please use the comments sections to let me know what you think, if you’ve got any questions or if you just want a chat

Happy Cooking and see you again soon
